OBJECTIVES
The Course in the Management of the Arts provided by the Institute of European Studies of Macau is designed for student willing to become programmers of cultural and artistic activities.
The main objective of this long-term course is to supply the knowledge and the necessary skills which will enable the students to become manager-programmers in the complex area of Arts.
The applicants should hold a university degree and have experience in the areas of organization, management or co-ordination of cultural activities, mainly in the domain of the Fine Arts performing arts (music, opera, dance, theatre) and cultural heritage.
The general objectives of this course are to impart knowledge to the students about the following:
- The need to plan and find efficient strategies in the management of artistic and cultural activities.
- The need of co-operation between creators and those responsible for artistic and cultural organizations.
To reach these objectives the course is based upon three fundamental points:
- To supply knowledge about the social and institutional context in the culture area and in that of the economic development.
- To learn and develop concepts and means of programming and of cultural organizations, regarding the management of human resources, equipment and ways of accessing both regional and global information concerning cultural production.
- To devise and practice of forms of understanding, i.e. local verses global production/exhibition.
TEACHING METHOD
The teaching method is based upon apprenticeship/development/practice; and on methodologies and processes of cultural programming as well.
The method aims at carrying out concrete projects situations to real at solving problems of cultural institutions and/or materializing projects that are already underway.
The teaching method is theory and practice, and the official language is English.
CONDITION TO APPLY
Applicants must complete an enrollment form supplied by the course/Institute of European Studies of Macau.
The main condition to apply to the course and acceptance of the acceptance of the applicants is the submission of a prototype of a cultural programme, which should take into account the following aspects:

- Budget

EVALUATION SYSTEM
The Management of the Arts Course 1998/1999 final evaluation is based on 50% for the project and 50% for the information given by the lectures: assignments (5 pages in maximum), exams or work in class.
The absences should not exceed 25%.
At the end of the course students who pass will be given a Diploma (Post-Graduation) with a quantitative global classification.

These four areas, which correspond to the phases of the course, require a final evaluation.
The course is hinged onto a system of tutorship corresponding to the phase of each students practical application.
The course will only end after respective tutors have a global evaluation, ratified by the Pedagogical Council.
